Altered Feral State, Inc.
www.alteredferalstate.org
Altered Feral State is organized to address issues related
to feral cats in Walton County and throughout Georgia to improve the lives of homeless
and feral cats and eliminate their breeding through Trap-Neuter-Return
(TNR). Educate the public about the
plight of stray and feral cats and the need to spay/neuter pets, support feral
cat caretakers and gain recognition of the beneficial role they perform, and
promote the adoption of long-term, caretaker-based solutions regarding feral
cats.
Our vision is to have communities where no kittens are
born wild, where no cat capable of living in a home is lacking one, and where
no adult feral cats go wanting for food, water, and appropriate care and
concern.
Our purpose and commitment are to:
- Promote community awareness of the responsible care
and treatment of animals.
- Create a feral cat network of caregivers and
rescuers to encourage working together, sharing experiences, information,
and support.
- Facilitate the work of caretakers in caring for
feral cats and controlling feral cat population growth.
- Provide a communication network and support
resources for caretakers.
- Assist people in starting their own
managed cat colony by providing information, expertise, advice, support
and traps
- Work with and educate decision makers and
governmental agencies in appropriate and humane solutions for feral cats.
- Change local ordinances to protect the caretakers of
feral cat colonies.
- Getting local animal control policies changed to
endorse Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR).
- Implement and manage programs that benefit the
communities we serve.
- Provide a viable alternative to
euthanasia, through spay/neuter, vaccination, release and ongoing managed
care of unsocialized cats, and adoption of tame
cats and kittens.
- Organize a network of veterinarians who
will spay/neuter and vaccinate at no or low cost.
To date, our efforts are supported by:
- The
Humane Society of the United States
- Alley

- Neighborhood

Our aim is to join efforts with other
animal welfare groups and concerned citizens to achieve our common goal of
making Georgia a safe place for animals.
